Puerto Plata – Dominican Republic

Puerto Plata is the largest and most important city on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. Founded in 1502, it is one of the country’s most important tourist destinations. Dozens of hotels line its entire coast and it welcomes many of the thousands of tourists who arrive in the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata is popularly known as the Amber Coast. Puerto Plata has a Malecón or seaside promenade that stretches over 6 kilometers. At one end, there is the Fort and Fortress of San Felipe, one of the first in the Americas and one of the best-preserved today. Puerto Plata is also famous for its rum, and more specifically for the Brugal Rum factory located in this city. The Brugal Rum factory is one of the oldest in the country. Founded in 1888. Puerto Plata also has a Corcovado similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro. The 16-meter-tall statue of Christ is located at the top of Pico Isabel Torres in the Pico Isabel Torres National Park. This is a nice excursion that we recommend doing. You can take a cable car to the top and from there enjoy a fabulous view of the entire bay of Puerto Plata. Puerto Plata is a very clean city and more organized than other cities in the country. In the city center is the Cathedral of Saint Philip the Apostle in ‘art deco’ style. Next to it is Independence Park, a beautiful and charming park that is a source of pride for all the inhabitants of this city. Sosua – Dominican Republic

About 30 minutes east of Puerto Plata and Playa Dorada is the town of Sosúa, with its casual atmosphere in Los Charamicos and El Batey that invites relaxation and enjoyment of nature. Originally settled by Jewish refugees from Europe half a century ago, it is now known for its beautiful beach and its collection of European-style restaurant terraces that take advantage of the good weather. The nightlife is lively here as well, with nightclubs filled until the early hours of the morning. It is said that Sosúa wakes up when Puerto Plata goes to bed. Sosúa hosts an annual jazz festival in October. Artists from the Caribbean and the United States perform alongside Dominican musicians. Most of the action takes place at the amphitheater of Casa Marina Beach Resort, but also on outdoor terraces of hotels and nightlife spots in both Sosúa and nearby Cabarete.

Cabarete – Dominican Republic

CABARETE Cabarete is located about a 15-minute drive east of Sosúa, on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. This small beach town, situated between a bay and a lagoon, is very popular among young people and the young at heart. Its atmosphere is a colorful and casual mix of national folklore, international tourism, windsurfing, and adventure tourism. Its attractions include the landscape of its mountains, its two lagoons (Cabarete and Punta Goleta), nearby caves, and its small village of descendants of freed Black people brought from the United States in the past century. From a geomorphological point of view, it is located in the Yásica coastal plain. WINDSURFING, KITESURF & SURF Cabarete is internationally known for its exceptional conditions for windsurfing, kitesurf & surf. Several championships of the Windsurfing Association World Cup have been held in its waters, and every year the amateur world cup, the Cabarete Race Week, takes place. There are several windsurfing schools active throughout the year. In addition to windsurfing, Cabarete stands out for its sports and adventure tourism offerings. There are many organized excursions to explore the inland countryside, go mountain biking, or watch birds at the Cabarete Lagoon.
